描述
The Aldrich Bay Park is located adjacent to the existing Aldrich Bay Promenade in Sai Wan Ho. It provides a breathing space for the local residents who may access the park from all surrounding areas.
Quite a number of pavilions and resting places are constructed to accommodate the needs of people of different age groups. The overall design follows the existing site context – earth mounds plus mini waterfalls are constructed at the southern side of the site to screen off noises from the Eastern Island Corridor, and a feature pool is constructed at the Northern side facing the sea to visually link up the park with Aldrich Bay.
The theme of ‘Fishing Village’ is articulated by adopting the contemporary design approach to redefine traditional fisherman huts, with the use of steel, glass, timber and natural bamboo to create different spaces with different levels of privacy, and adding more varieties by the layering and interlocking of spaces. The fishermen huts are supported by steel structure are elevated above the water surface such that water literally can flow freely underneath the deck. A traditional fisherman boat and two small sampans are used to intimate the traditional fishing village in a contemporary way.
Another theme of the Park – Scent Garden, is located in the southern side of the park near the main entrance. Walking along the earth mounds, water features and pavilions, the area becomes a perfect gathering space for people of different ages, including elderly, young couples, families with children, people with disabilities etc. Clear and informative signages are installed providing information of the selected scented plants and introducing the characteristics of different plants to the public.
The same materials palette consisting of natural bamboo, custom made steel sections, natural timber and recycle bricks are employed for different building elements, including the services and toilet block and the external pavilions to form one harmonious landscaped area along the promenade of Sai Wan Ho.
