Description
The Lei Yue Mun Park & Holliday Village is located on top of slopes situated in Eastern District abutted by Chai Wan Road, A Kung Ngam Road and the Eastern Corridor.
The whole compound covers an area of 20 hectares and comprises more than 50 buildings with a total of 282 lodging units and some recreational activities blocks. Some of the buildings inside the site are identified and recorded by the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) as graded historic buildings. The entire compound is accorded as Grade I.
The site, formally a barracks compound built in the early twentieth century, was handed over to the Ex-Urban Services Department for management in 1987 upon conversion into a holiday camp. The site was an important battleground in World War II. Under the management of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the LYMPHV is a popular holiday camp.
Starting from 1991, the operation of holiday camps has been regulated by the Hotel and Guesthouse Accommodation (H & GA) Ordinance, for which the Home Affairs Department (HAD) is the enforcement and licensing authority. The project is to upgrade existing facilities in the LYMPHV to comply with the latest licensing requirements stipulated in the H&GA Ordinance, at the same time to preserve the original features of the historic buildings as much as possible.
